Busy Week Ahead

Thank you to all of you for your patience with my mistake on the letter about the Owl Prowl I sent home. This past week went a lot smoother. The children are really getting the hang of our routines and procedures. I hope you are finding the same at home.

Here is what is coming up:

Reading:  The story this week is called "Max Malone". It is quite a bit lengthier than the other stories we have read so far this year. Please take turns reading the story (you read a page and your child reads a page). Also, your child should be using the book to help find the answers to the story questions. This should help minimize any spelling errors. Also, I strongly recommend that your child read the story independently once again on Thursday evenings to prepare for the story test we take on Friday mornings.

Language:  We will continue identifying subjects of sentences while introducing predicates of sentences. I love Grammar :)

Math: Last week, I briefly introduced standard form with three digit numbers (ex: 351) and expanded form (ex. 300+50+1). I will be continuing this for mastery this week up to the ten thousands place. Thank you for your help with basic math facts. I have seen an improvement overall. Keep plugging away with this. It is so important that addition and subtraction facts be memorized.

Science:  In Science last week, we studied the parts of a flower and how pollination occurs. Thank you to Peter for bringing in some excellent flower samples so we could see first hand the pistil, stamen, and pollen. The kids loved it!  On Thursday, I introduced conifers. We started an activity on studying cones and their job. We will be wrapping that up this week. If you have any cool cones in your backyard, your children are welcome to bring them in to class.

Screech Owl

Owl Prowl:  The Owl Prowl will be on Tuesday, October 19th at 6:00 pm!  Yes, that is the correct date! Please mark your calendars. Also, send in your response form as soon as possible. If you would like to make a donation to Mr. Glassman, please send it in with your form along with if you are interested in helping with contributing anything for our dinner.

This past week we had a birthday in 3N. We would like to wish Margaret a very happy birthday!
