Owl Sighting Successful

Well... I would have to say that our Owl Prowl was a huge success. As Rick Glassman said. "It doesn't get any better than that!" It was so cool to see not one, but two screech owls flying in and then interacting with each other. Hands down, this was the best prowl I have ever been on. Thank you to all of you parents for coming, contributing to dinner, and helping clean up and loading my car. You are the best!

We will be celebrating Halloween this Friday from 1:30-2:30. There will be two stations in each third grade room. You should have received a letter from our room mom last week. If you are free, you are welcome to join us.

Please buy Market Day this month to support our Specials Teachers. They do so much to enrich our children every day. It is pie month and a good time to stock up on those pies for the upcoming holidays!

This week's news:
Reading:   We will be back into our regular routine this week. This week's story is a Time for Kids article called "Web Wonders". There will be story questions and an activity this week.

Language: We spent the entire time last week working on "Pumping Up Our Writing". It was so neat to see the kids take the strategies I taught them and incorporate them into their own work. Mr. Hoffman came into our room to make balloon shapes and related it to writing. It really "pumped" them up! LOL Near the end of last week, we began our grocery list of words to accompany a writing prompt. We will continue with that prompt and develop it into a great writing piece.

Also, we will learning how to write friendly letters so we can soon open our CKS Post Office. The children have filled out job applications last week. I am hoping for the Grand Opening to be the week of November 1st.

Math:  We will be working on adding three and four digit number with and without regrouping. Later this week, we will introduce the problem solving strategy of predict and test. That skill will take a couple of days as it can be a hard concept.

Science:  I know I have written this for at least three weeks now, but we will be setting up our mealworm habitats this week to begin our study on complete metamorphosis.

Have a great week!
